Having never had to face racism or even discrimination, I can only imagine how difficult it is to overcome systemic setbacks. I have watched exercises in schools etc where there is a race and certain factors allow participants to move forward and others to move back. The race to the same goal then starts with the distance greater or less depending on what factors applied to you. That physically represented the disparity of opportunity to me and I am unable to forget. I am unsure how to systemically yet personally make a difference at the moment besides speaking out. I do try to allow equity when I have power. That is not as obvious to recognize when I do indeed have power. I feel I can do my part by pointing out customers of color who have been overlooked by staff so that they may be served in turn, etc but on a grand scale, it is often overwhelming (but no defeating). Any other ideas?
