It is amazing how much information a 3-minute video can provide. I feel frustrated that more white people don't take the time to read a book, or watch a video, or participate in a community group, to learn more about the U.S. history that was not taught in school, and the horrific disparities that continue, and are actually getting worse (mass incarceration, for example). I know it is my work to educate other white people, and that I need to do more than I have in the past. The people who are unabashedly ignorant are often the ones easiest to address about race issues - if someone says something racist, or insensitive, it's out there and can be addressed in the moment. That is easier for me than figuring out how to reach the "nice white people" who would never talk about race out loud (at least not in hearing distance of others), so broaching the subject can seem very awkward.
