This knowledge is so critical and yet is not always discussed as it needs to be. It is frustrating growing up and realizing as an adult how much of our education has been white-washed. As a person of color I feel a lot of frustration of how the systems in place withhold crucial knowledge of our history which impacts others understanding of how they view 'race'. Moving forward I feel more optimistic when I see people having these discussion but also recognize the limitations. It is important as we move forward advocating for change we also state the need to begin to dismantle the white-washing of our history. The concept of we need to learn and recognize our history so we do repeat the negative parts, but how can this work when so much has been withheld. We must keep putting in the work.
