I absolutely think/feel/believe that the historical events, rules and laws outlined in the articles and videos on Module 1 are still impacting our society today. Certainly with our current president's racist and sexist ways, but even without that, there are so many underlying and blatant illustrations of the pervasiveness of racism in our society. As a white woman who is the parent to two daughters of Latina descent, I am fearful of how they are and will be treated out in the world, esp. when they're not with me. As a mental health practitioner, I am all about prevention esp. related to physical and mental health; however, we are set up in the U.S. with our housing practices and medical and environmental systemic racism and lack of opportunity for Persons of Color that perpetuate the practice of keeping people down, keeping people from moving forward and receiving equal access to medical care, and keeping the status quo - which means no growth and no dialogue to change. I do have hope, but I am also overwhelmed.
