It's incredibly disheartening to see how insidiously racism has unfolded in the US and Europe over the centuries, and how white people and systems have systematically targeted people of color in basically every facet of life. I had no idea the extent of the abuse and assimilation of native peoples, or the impact of delousing at the Texas/Mexico border, or the forced detention of Japanese Americans.
It's altogether quite disgusting. I'm ashamed of my country's history and the systematic oppression of non white people by white people.
It's a privilege to be able to research and read and educate myself about this history instead of having to live it and inherit it. I believe that all information is good information, and I look forward to taking this history and context forward so I can show up as an anti-racist in my community.
