As an educator, I have seen the differential treatment from various social classes. It is sad to say that in my undergrad during my field experiences, I have noticed the difference, the segregation (whether intentional or not.) I see the connection poverty and educational opportunity, incarceration and educational opportunity, and poverty. The connection is this: poverty alone affects too many children from getting equal educational opportunities. However, when racial and ethnic identification is added to poverty, those children are practically forgotten. White privilege holds unprecedented value in education, which causes incarceration to increase when considering all children who are and are not being schooled appropriately.
