The question is about seeing connections. I literally just had a conversation with my father about this yesterday. He is a 71 year old man who does not quite see or understand the privilege he has. I can pretty much guarantee that when he went to high school in 1963-1967, no teacher was teaching about red lining. I have learned about and taught this every year as part of the systemic racism in our world. This systemic structure makes it so difficult for us as a nation to create equity, equality, and opportunity for all citizens. I keep asking those who resist what is happening in our world what they are afraid of? Why can't everyone have opportunity? It just frustrates me.
Add to that .... the current director of HUD is clueless. He doesn't speak about this issue, he doesn't recognize the issue (or again if he does, he won't fix it). It is disgraceful and thus, our nation remains inequitable because of it. We need change. We need it now. And this system needs to go. Grant loans, give opportunity. Don't judge lest you be judged. The hate they give exacerbates the system that oppresses.
