The video content that was shared so far in Module 1 is mind blowing to me. I have been living in a bubble for so long as being a non-racist living in Texas. I thought I was doing my part. I live in a prominently White community and work for a school district that is also prominently White. My White family and I did not discuss racism or other events in history that did not "effect" White people. My parents and grandparents are great in a lot of ways but often use racist comments, jokes, slurs, etc. "It has always been this way", I thought that if I did not address it then I was doing alright because I was not repeating it. I avoided a lot of confrontation this way. Being silent during this pandemic and silent during the current culture/climate of our world is easier than addressing matters that I can recognize. I don't think I can yet articulate in a way to have a meaningful conversation with someone about being an anti-racist. I am looking forward to continuing my learning to be able to bring this information not only to my professional work but also to my family.
