I would like to say we've arrived at the place in the evolution of human history where members of all races interact with love and mutual respect toward one another. We are supposed to be heading into the Age of Aquarius, a time when harmony and understanding rule among humankind. The pandemic has forced us along a bit toward that goal, affording families of all races the time and physical proximity to find ways to live together in peace with other family members. How do we turn that outward, especially after the pandemic is a thing of the past? How do we latch on to the momentum we have gained through forced close observance of family dynamics in ways that can benefit and improve the interactions of the various races with each other? I think step number one is to believe that we actually can live together in harmony. If we placed one stranger representing each race in a room together for six weeks, under conditions similar to those families have lived with during the pandemic, would the strangers leave the room after six weeks as friends? I want to believe they would. Isn't it so that we flock together in our silos with those of our race, instead of extending our hospitality and our presence to everyone equally? Who will have the courage to break this barrier to understanding? I would like to propose that we form circles of multiracial gatherings that we all support and attend regularly to break down all of these self-imposed barriers. Will conflicts still break out at times? Of course. But I would venture to say that if every race is at the table, we will have a much better chance to sort out differences, become more aware of realities as opposed to ideals, and develop empathy that extends to all races, and not just to members of our own race. Racism then was about one race thinking they were superior to all other races, and being dominant. Racism today is fear-based, behind closed doors prejudice by whites that seeks passive-aggressive ways to maintain dominance or to prevent another race from getting the upper hand. Both forms of racism are wrong and must be abandoned completely as we move into the New Age in which power and dominance will take a back seat to peace and equality among all humankind.
