This is the quote came to my mind after watching the video about the creation of "race" as a social construct. It is terrible how many people are not aware about what race is and what it isn't and how much of what we are taught in our whitewashed history classes is a lie. My school did not teach me the history that represented in this module's videos; I know I have to keep learning. Additional comment on the history of gasoline baths and the treatment of immigrants: I am a Jew, who came to America from Ukraine when I was thirteen years old. I am extremely lucky in that the privilege of my skin color made my acculturation an immeasurably better experience than of the experience that the Mexican immigrants have today. I did not realize that the practices of eugenics and gassing had originated in the US and then emulated by the Nazis to exterminate the Jewish people. It saddens and angers me to see people in my community forgetting that they were, at one point, also not accepted as part of the white majority, now expressing the same sentiments towards the Black and Brown people, as were used to justify the extermination of the Jews.
