I find myself feeling a mixture of emotions as I watch these videos. Sadness from seeing all non "whites" go through. I'm also feeling upset and anger that this is not part of our history education in school (or at least not mine). I am feeling guilt and regret for not doing anything to combat this.
I try to treat all people with respect but I am recognizing that this is not enough. I know educating myself is the first step and I hope and will do more. I am so thankful for those who are stepping up to fight for what is right and for true equality throughout history and in today's world. As someone who benefits from white privilege, it is easy for me to go about my day to day without too much disruption...how unfair is that. I need to open my eyes, educate myself, and actively fight for what is right. There is a lot that needs to change and I hope to be better at supporting black communities by becoming more active rather than passive.
It is our responsibilities, it is MY responsibility.
Katie I stan you so hard rn!
