I'm a firm believer that the history of this country has informed people beliefs and behavior today. Our history has repeated itself over and over by oppressing minorities with the same tactics but using a different name/method. For example, the gas cleansing of 1917 compared to the "wall" of this era has a different name but same meaning. It's an attempt to keep a group out because someone thinks they are less inferior. The blatant acts are out their but it's the hidden acts that concern me the most.
Everything in the module struck a note and has me asking, am I doing enough to be a part of the conversation, to change the rhetoric and to call out the injustice and biases...
I am grateful for all of the videos in module one and the gas cleansing was not something I was aware or. It is horrifying to me that this violence inspired the work of Nazi Germany. I agree that it is time for us to say we have had enough of this horrible systematic racism that has all helped fuel the white supremacist culture.
As I mentioned in a previous post I grew up in rural America with no exposure to anyone but white people. There were so many messages I received while I could have easily said my people were not racist but we are!
