Do you think these historical events, rules, and laws still impact our society today? What are your thoughts after viewing these videos?
Upon finishing this module and watching the videos, it is now even more clear and apparent to me just how racism has shaped the United States every step of our history and continues to greatly impact every system we have today. It is frustrating to reflect on the history I was taught throughout school vs. the reality and not being taught about any of the events that were discussed in the videos presented in this module. If that makes me, a white person, this angry, I can only begin to imagine the pain and anger that fills people of color's minds and bodies, impacting their mental and physical health daily.
Adding for the 3rd reflection prompt: Our history has a large impact on our behaviors today, through the videos of the hard truth of our history and the psychoeducation on biases, we can see how history and the messages displayed in our society both metaphorically and overtly, shape our narratives, beliefs, thoughts, and subconscious biases. These patterns continually perpetuate onto themselves and keep the wheels rolling on the systemically oppressive train our society has been driving forward for centuries now.
