As an educator, I think that it is so important that we take the steps to highlight and educate our students about these stories. So many of the topics are completely ignored and our history is white washed to only highlight the "successes." As someone who seeks out training opportunities and continuous education, even I was shocked by some of the specifics provided and begin to recognize the areas I can continue to grow in. Additionally, it's so easy for individuals to think of these things as "history" and not even realize how recent these things happened! Native Americans were being removed from their families for adoption in the 1960's - not the 1800's.
Exactly, as a young adult, my gut reaction is to think well this was generations ago and always a slap in the face to realize how current much of this history is and how much more we need to change.
