The piece of this module that spoke to me the most was the video that spoke to generational trauma. It's interesting that I understood this and personally felt this was affecting the large majority of our indigenous peoples here in Canada, but I never made the connection for people of color. I see it now and so many pieces of the puzzle are simultaneously clicking into place, making me feel ill at the long standing injustices world wide to persons of color. As I was completing this module an article regarding the death of Elijah McClain popped up, there is so much hurt to heal, so many wrongs to right... I'm starting to feel better equipped now to do my part.
This module powerfully shows the direct connections to what has been set up and continues to impact people of color in the united states from every direction from the start of this country. I will continue to stand up and intervene when I see injustice. I've had to step back to figure out the best way to educate another white person before just launching an attack. which I used to do a lot. Sometimes it's worked other times it hasn't. These videos gives me more energy and facts and ammo to be a better ally, a better anti-racist as I continue to learn from this. It is a long road, but I want to be on it and grow and stand with people of color and fight all of the wrongs.
This module reiterated much of what I have been sharing with my Girl Scout Troop as they work on several social justice and government badges. I appreciate hearing the same information from multiple sources, it gives me more confidence when facing arguments by those who are not anti-racist.
