My biggest reflection from this module, after watching all the videos, was how even though there have been many minorities discriminated against, African Americans/Blacks have suffered the most and are still suffering. My saying this does not take away from any of the experiences that other minority groups had but, a major difference between the other minority groups and us African Americans/Blacks is that slavery was 400+ years and we never received an apology or anything; we are just constantly told to get over it and move on. I personally, when I talk about slavery and the need for the Civil Rights Movement, have been told that African Americans need to stop complaining about the past and be happy segregation ended and we have affirmative action.
You make an excellent point Tiera. The thing is that many white people dont see themselves as responsible because they did not have a direct link to slavery and they fail to realize and take on the responsibility of their ancestors. Many people are ignorant to the problems and lack knowledge.
Kenan,
This is exactly right. And most white people fail to realize that although we may not have been slaves, we are still dealing with the aftermath of it and for a lot of us in the community, we are suffering mentally.
