I understood the concepts of environmental racism and systemic racism, but never had the ability to verbally explain it to someone who did not. This is why I find it so hard to call out family members and others but I know it is so necessary. After viewing these resources, I am having an easier time connecting the dots and feel a little more confident in explaining to people how Black people and other POC are disadvantaged systemically. I also realized even more that literally every ethnic group the US has found some way to exclude, marginalize, and treat as inhuman---the stories of the Japanese incarceration camps, the Native American children being LITERALLY stolen, and the gasoline baths at the US-Mexico border were all heartbreaking-and hearing about the legal policies which justified these cruel practices was even more daunting. I just don't understand how easily I missed this in history class, and how NOBODY ever talked about how screwed up these measures were-do highschool teachers notice too? And if they do, why don't we talk about it anymore and how this history is forcing implicit bias which skill exists today. :(
