Now that you have viewed all of the content for Module 1, how much do you believe our history informs people's beliefs and behavior today?
I 100 percent believe our history informs beliefs and behaviors and has always done so.
What information in this module stood out to you or impacted you the most?
Thinking about the items that showed African Americans as inferior, (mammy, little sambo images, Amos and Andy, Al Jolson) were pervasive and still persist. They also remind me of the way Jews were portrayed by nazis, vilifying them, making them ugly and sub-human. I found two paper fans in a relative's house when she had passed that have beautiful religious images on one side and then an advertisement for whites only funeral home and hearse. Some relatives having some of these items in their home still, claiming they are "antiques" and how utterly horrible they are. It males me want to speak to my own children more about these images and their meanings.
