Now that you have viewed all of the content for Module 1, how much do you believe our history informs people's beliefs and behavior today? What information in this module stood out to you or impacted you the most?
Our history absolutely informs our current beliefs and behaviors, because our history is actually our present. We can look around us and see the impacts of slavery and Jim Crow on our current reality in the United States: the mass incarceration of Black men, redlining, voter suppression, schools and neighborhoods and jobs. Everything that we know is molded by racism. As an archivist, I appreciated the video on the Jim Crow Museum. Seeing racist historical objects and documents grouped together and hearing the context provided by Dr. Pilgrim painted a profound and powerful picture of how these items have shaped our collective consciousness of race in our country.
