I believe our history has vastly informed society's beliefs and behavior - today and historically. I was shocked and surprised by a lot of the information but namely 1) the systemic oppression and challenges faced by the entire African American community is astounding; how that contributes to chronic stress and generational trauma can not be ignored any longer. 2) anti-black imagery and propaganda has fueled the development of stereotypes and bias, which perpetuates systemic racism just mentioned 3) the fact that placing blame on victims of racism-related assault/injury allows/encourages the white majority to "justifiably" forget about them; our moderator said "if we assign blame...we absolve ourselves of any responsibility to create change" - that was probably the most poignant message of the entire module, for me.
