I believe racism and inequality is baked into our society. The fact that there are still racist laws on the books is just one example. Unfortunately, I don’t think that creating laws meant to counter racism is the answer, because it doesn’t change anything at a societal level. The only laws that seem to stick and make a difference (negatively) are those that encourage discrimination (E.g. Jim Crow laws).
Rather, education is the solution. I grew up in a community that was almost completely white, with only a couple of non-white teachers in my high school. Most of the history in this module was relatively new to me, because none of it was taught in my schools. No Child Left Behind must end, to allow room for teachings and discussions such as this class prior to adulthood.
