History has a huge impact on people's beliefs today. I'm fairly young and I didn't grow up surrounded by Jim Crow caricatures. I've done a lot of work on myself to try and unlearn biases and racism, but I know it's still there. I remember my mother's intense fear of "bad parts of town" and how even though she was never overtly hateful or racist, she still instilled that fear of "criminals" and people who didn't look like us or were from a different social class. The Jim Crow museum really stood out to me in this module. I was aware of the caricatures and propaganda utilized during that time period, but I had now idea just HOW MUCH existed and how dramatically awful a lot of it was. It wasn't nearly as long ago as it seems.
