I believe history has a huge impact on people's beliefs today. They are not born into believing that they are superior to people of different races, it is a learned belief. History education lacks the in depth knowledge that is needed to understand black history and it needs to be changed so that we can hope that future generations will show more compassion.
After reviewing all the material I was blown away with what I had not learned in school or did not know overall. It made me really reflect on my responsibility to be anti-racist. If I really want to be part of the change in our society I need to continue to learn on my own. Lucky for me my wife also really wants to be part of the change. She is really into podcasts and has shared some that talk about black history in the United States. My biggest concern is that the recent protests will fizzle out in our society and we will see no progress until (unfortunately) the next event occurs. I want to do everything in my power to push for change, and on of the best ways to do that is to really dive deep into the history of oppression in our country.
