Again... didn't know some of this, but not surprised to learn any of it.
I was most impacted by how the rules are designed and enforced to maintain the status quo for white Americans. The Atlantic piece at the end of the module put a real exclamation point on this:
"We've chosen deprivation of liberty [prison] for a historically
aggrieved group [Blacks] who's liberty in the United States was
never firmly established to begin with".
^ This really hit hard for me. The idea that the entire system is set up to deny Blacks access to housing, education, and--if they don't accept the way that things are set up--LIBERTY!
I hope 2020 is the year that we begin to reconcile our "Law & Order" history and orient it towards "Truth & Justice".
