I had not heard of the practice of redlining until recently. I have spent some time learning about this and its direct impacts on my own community. The video on Jamaal and Kevin is eye opening because of this. It does an excellent job of highlighting how redlining impacts us over generations and in so many different arenas. I have also been listening to the book ”The New Jim Crow” recently and had no idea or understanding of how pervasive the War on Poverty has been, specifically as it relates to BIPOC and Black people, until doing so. I knew prison populations had increased and that it has grossly impacted black people more than white, but I did not know or understand all of the laws and politicking happening behind closed doors that have impacted this even further.
