Reflect on the discussion about history, our foundational structures, the "red lining" of families of color out of opportunity for economic advancement, the connection between poverty, educational opportunity, and incarceration. Are you able to see those connections?
The public school system is important to me and the video highlights the inequality in using property taxes to fund local schools. It brings back memories when I was a child, hearing about the "Robin Hood" funding system and how it was highlighted in the media and even my family like that was a a bad thing. How are people of lower socioeconomic status forced to go to underfunded schools ever going to have an equal playing field with those of higher socioeconomic status. They aren't, not the way it is currently being run. I can absolutely see connections between poverty, educational opportunity and incarceration. It is not an even playing field. We also have too many incarcerated for low level crimes that should be site and release.
