"Do you think these historical events, rules, and laws still impact our society today? What are your thoughts after viewing these videos?"
I certainly do think these historical events have led to a deep-seated prejudice to POC. The history of how white people creating this narrative of black ppl as "other" in order to justify treating them as slaves is not surprising. Which then leads to a systematic and pervasive mentality of white ppl being superior continuing today - and ppl don't even know why. And how our Jim Crow laws have continued but just in a more subversive way (See 13th - if you have not already). Supposedly we were supposed to be the land of free for all, but clearly that is not, nor ever has been the case. While I feel I'm pretty informed on racial history, the gasoline bathing of Latinos for me was mind blowing, how the Nazi's took this idea from us and our ways. Reminds me of our involvement in Central America in the 80's and how those dictators and soldiers were trained at the School of America, aka School of Assassins here in the US.
Some of the videos seem like brief overviews, where I just want to go deeper but I know I can do that on my own.
Indeed, I do believe these historical events still have an impact on U.S. policies and society. The two videos that struck me hardest were the Jim Crow and the U.S. & Mexican borders. I think much of what happened then still happens today. It may appear a little different in the actions of the authorities, but the results are still the same.
exactly, cloaked under a different name. See 13th on Netflix if you haven't, it will blow your mind on how Jim Crow still exists.
