As I was watching those videos I was terrified by the thought that things haven't changed that drastically over time. There are still so many injustices happening across the United States right now. It is scary to watch those videos and then watch the news and see many similarities. Hispanic Americans being "housed" in camps with horrible living conditions, police brutality against people of color, fear and mistreatment of certain ethnic groups because of a virus that is said to come from their countries. I think as a white person it can feel like we have made progress because you don't experience these injustices on a daily basis.
What impacted me the most was that all of These parts of history have been hidden from the majority of people. It’s like “The Big Lie”. History has been so whitewashed ( with an emphasis on white!). The hubris of the founding people to think they could take land from the Native peoples and the people of Africa being brought here—totally against their wills— to further a small minority’s economic goals. It’s all so unconscionable. I hated the segment on medical research that dehumanized and tortured subjects —again, against their wills. It makes me ashamed for the Caucasian part of the human race.
