I do still think these historical events, rules, and laws still impact our society today. These videos have opened my eyes to many events I was unaware of, such as the use of Black women for medical testing. I could not help but feel disgusted by the events that took place in history and unfortunately there are still events taking place today in 2020. In the one video, the individual speaking mentions that we are supposed to realize how horrible these events and situations are and then work to stop it. Unfortunately, that has not happened. There is still prejudice and discrimination occurring.
There is definitely a connection between red lining of families, our foundational structure and what is still happening today. American was founded on white supremacy and racism. There are still civil rights movements happening today due to the inequality of people of color. With the coronavirus being related to individuals from china, police brutality, and racism from individuals of leadership, there is no doubt that there is a connection to American history and foundational structures to what is going on today in 2020.
History greatly informs people’s beliefs and behavior today. Our foundation was built on inequality and leaders who created these illusions that people of color were dirty, unworthy, etc. Due to the foundation and how we have been conditioned on what to believe has impacted individuals. Biases were created as white Americans being superior. This view of skin color is still seen today in police brutality and discrimination towards people of color. In this module something that stood out to me is the fact that we have all of these historical facts and yet there are still these issues today. Also, using black men and women to do medical procedures and studies stood out to me and the fact that the doctor has several statues still standing.
