These historic events, rules and laws absolutely still impact our society today. Although the language may have shifted, many practices in our society have not changed and that is wrong. When I think of these historic events, I immediately think of my education. I knew so little about many of these events in our history and only recall a fraction of them from my general education. Part of teaching American history to our youths is to prevent us from repeating the horrific injustices of our past. Erasing it from history books and not educating our children on the truth of our history is a disgusting grievance. We cannot move forward and make real changes if we do not acknowledge our failures to our fellow humans.
