What struck me the most was the idea that society judges success and “rightness” by white standards (from the video discussing Native American children). I think this is still true today, and that we unfairly judge non-white families for living their own culture—for example, the many cultures who live in multi-generational homes because family is a core value.
The idea that banks still exercise unfair mortgage practices based on race is infuriating. Why should I qualify for a larger loan with a smaller interest than my black colleague, who does the same job at the same salary? The loan and home-buying process is unnecessarily complicated and opaque.
