In Module 1, I have just scratched the service of how little I know. I grew up in a large city, but in a small private school, mostly white, community. I am so unsettled by how much history has been exorcised from my education. And what was the purpose? Did my teachers even know they were missing pieces of information, or were they also products of revisionist history? I am challenging myself to keep digging and to keep educating myself on the truth of what has occurred in our nation. I also have to ask myself, why did it take me until now to be willing to dig for the truth. I dislike and am dissapointed that I have allowed myself to turn a blind eye and settle. It is my responsibility to pay attention and to learn. And then to pass that (and more importantly a willingness to learn and see injustice) on to my children.
