This section of Module 1 really struck home for me. I definitely see evidence of red lining and the impact of parental incarceration on their children. In the community that I work, we have neighborhoods that are "better off" than other neighborhoods and if a child comes to school from a certain area, there is a preconcived idea of what type of behavior that student will exhibit. This also means that they are suspended out of school much more quickly than students from the "better" neighborhoods. I have worked really hard the past two years to reduce the number of out of school suspensions in my school building. We still have a ways to go, but at least we are starting to find other alternatives to suspension.
I enjoyed reading your post and i agree with what you're saying especially when it comes to behaviors in schools. I'm glad you're using your career to make a difference.
