I'm reflecting on my childhood and the small number of people in my family who were incarcerated. And, even then, they were just cut out rather than included but supported. I've since had a lot more experience in life and I keep thinking about what a terrible system imprisonment is. I work at a Child Advocacy Center and we see both adults who are committing crimes against children and child-on-child incidents. And it's depressing the lack of actual help provided to these people. We often even see repeat offenders after release from prison, which proves that prison has no benefit. People are taken away from their families, stripped of rights to vote, and isolated with NO PLAN OR TEACHING for how to do better. We HAVE to do better!
