After watching the videos in the first section of the module, I am reminded of a sociology course I took in college where we read "A Different Mirror" by Ronald Takaki, which looked at the history of the United States from various cultural perspectives. I was confused why I never read about this growing up and my professor said that "history is written by the victors or those lead society" which she meant that in the United States, white anglo-saxon. I had never thought about history from various perspectives and these videos reminded me of that lesson.
I think that a lot of what those videos are talking about is still happening today, but if we don't all work to end racism, we are doomed to repeat history. It is not enough to simply read about what happened, we need to learn from it, and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
