Yes, historical racist events definitely still impact us today. From racism in the medical community, to environmental racism, to redlining, to immigration laws, this cancer exists everywhere. The problem is these horrific events learned about in Module 1, didn't happen all that long ago. People still alive today have lived through it, or were brought up by people who lived through it and we are the product of our upbringing. Racism exists in education, because these things are not taught to us in schools as well, so even though I didn't directly experience something like the Gasoline baths, or the Japanese internment camps - because I don't know the full story I play an active role in contributing to the ignorance of society. I refuse to play an active role and allow myself to be ignorant. Thank you to El Paso for providing us this free resource, and to all of the sources they site!!
