I'm always surprised by how coordinated and purposeful racial injustice is, and I know that's because as a white person I'm not on the receiving end of discrimination. Growing up, I was taught a very "pro" America version of events. Bad things were done, but they were presented as blips on a radar or as if they "just happened". Anytime I get to see examples of how systemetized and deliberate racist actions and policies are, it bumps up against that original teaching. In this instance, the part that had the biggest impact on me was how adoption had been used to attempt to destroy indigenous people's culture and family connections. How evil is that!? It makes me wonder about our adoption system and how that may be happening today. There were so many examples of racist actions and policies in the different videos, and I think it was a good thing- I find myself walking away from this module with more suspicion toward power structures and the whitewashed stories that are told.
