Being a social justice social studies teacher, I thought I was well versed on US and Racism. This module really demonstrated to me that just when you think you know a lot, there's a lot more disgusting and inhuman atrocities that the United States has conducted against People of Color. I had no idea about the Native American boarding schools and in the 1970s the children that were ripped apart from their families and placed into foster care white families. I am also absolutely disgusted at the experiments that were conducted on people of color for decades. It's honestly no wonder why the US is still so far behind when it comes to racial equality as we as a nation cannot be honest about these atrocities. We don't teach about these atrocities the way we should.
I share your disgust. I'm aware that many of these repressions were economically motivated. White majorities have been benefitting from the repression of minorities for years. The housing example really made an impression on me.
