I did not know about the gasoline baths and I was mad at the omission from my high school and undergrad history classes. Perhaps what maddened me the most is the lengths to which the government goes to cover up the atrocities- in this case, imprisoning Carmelita Torres and essentially disappearing her. And the chemical atrocities at the border continue: there have been multiple reports from ICE detainees experiencing bleeding and pain from being sprayed with corrosive disinfectants every 15 minutes. I was angry when I first heard about the spraying, but this video made me even angrier that ICE is repeating history. Part of me wonders whether if this had been taught in schools, there would be more news coverage about the disinfectant spraying.
I totally agree with what you're saying simnayak! One would hope that if we were actually taught it, maybe we would be less likely to repeat history.
