I am about to start the book titled, The New Jim Crow, about the disproportionate incarceration rate among African Americans and it was poignant that this video about the museum of the same title relates to the very causes of the disproporionatily. The most eye opening piece was the reminder of the bit by bit learning/desensitazation that occurs through the figurines, depictions, jokes, etc. that in the end, give the message of inferiority of black people in regard to white people. The fact that a section of the museum is dedicated to Jim Crow memorabilia with President Obama's face or likeness is sickening to my soul. Among the lynchings, police brutality, and murders.....this really speaks to degrading power of racism. How it can make one person degrade another but it can also eat away at a person's humanness like a cancer.....
I agree that just seeing the video of the museum is eye opening of the history that so many have gone through. I hope that during this pandemic time, they can create a tour and provide history so students can view it at home or in their classroom (virtually or in person).
