Now that you have viewed all of the content for Module 1, how much do you believe our history informs people's beliefs and behavior today? What information in this module stood out to you or impacted you the most?
It is the way we are taught history that informs people's beliefs and behaviors. We are taught one history at school and another at home. You can leave history behind after the lesson is taught but the consistent messaging that comes from families is what sticks with an individual - you either embrace it or recoil and seek to learn a new way of thinking. The freedom to ask "Why?" is important. What stood out most to me was that we have thought these cruel and unfair practices were ok - why would we ever think these things were ok and why did we let it continue. Even for those who thought these things were wrong we were too afraid to speak up. We have to stop being afraid and those who cause us to be afraid need to be removed from positions of power and authority.
