What I found the most disturbing was not knowing about the history at the Mexican border. What they had to go through is absolutely horrifying, and it feels like people are trying to sweep these horrible histories under the rug and pretend they didn't happen. Just like with the boarding schools and stealing children from the homes of indigenous people. In that video, the speaker said that America is the only country that hasn't apologized for what it did to the indigenous people. From listening to podcasts including from the Canadian Broadcasting Company, I had known more about how this had happened in Canada and I had heard a lot less about the US in this context. I think that is on me for not seeking out this information but it is also on our schools (saying this as a current teacher). History books are lying to us and that needs to end.
