That was really challenging to watch. To have the overtly racist memorabilia in one place with the through lines to lynching, the Klu Klux Klan, Jim Crow laws and systems all to the way to the racist imagery of Obama is so hateful. So much hate. Violence. It's what I see from so many Trump supporters...this ingrained hatred of anyone who is different from a white person. The ignorance of history, the lack of basic human empathy....its really horrifying to see and hear. I wish every student watched this video. I think it captures the hatred, ignorance, fear and lack of humanity of racist people an, most importantly, shows clearly that even people who probably never consider themselves racist have had a had in perpetuating systematic racism. That this is a societal problem. It's not just a small number of extremists or crazy people. I'm horrified also that there seems to be an acceptance of racism since Trump became president. White anti racist activism is crucial to dismantling these systems. Vote.
Oh my gosh--that was a truly enlightening video. My knowledge of the impact of Jim Crow and the Laws that were inspired by his character was superficial. In particular, the moving of the bus signs was deeply disturbing --the level of dehumanization it must have been for colored persons to have to participate in their own oppression. I've heard some people in the #BlackLivesmatter movement talk about how they engage in "spirit murder" every day--I can understand what they mean.
