The further I move through this process the less educated I feel. I knew the premise of the Jim Crow Laws, but I seriously didn't understand how it was propagated through so many "art" form. The thought of indoctrinating white youth to hate through play. I feel like some of the racism issues are still fostered today under the thought of it's not for me.
I am not a fan of rap music as a genre but, I still see the wisdom in the lyrics and the creativity in the rhythm and rhyme. I love jazz, the blues, big band music; all shared with me by my grandfather. I didn't think about the music as political in nature until tonight. Rap is the modern politic music of today, talking about injustice, culture and despair.
Jim Crow is gone but, using the same methods...... we are a nation of systematic racism.
