The imagery is insidious and revolting. I hope that more can become explicitly labeled as racist so that there are clear rules/norms about what can be showed/worn/shared.
i agree the images are very disturbing. i find myself more upset that the painful truth was hidden from us in school and continues to be denied and buried today--and allows us to stay ignorant. i wish that these stories and images were a part of our curriculum from a young age. i felt the same way about some images that really bothered me a few years ago, and was told by a friend that for the people of color who experienced these traumatic events, there is no luxury of being shielded or protected from this history. it is white people like me who are able to opt-out of confronting the things our ancestors did and what we are allowing to be done today.
