I consider myself to be very open-minded, educated, and have a definite soft spot for social justice matters across the board. However, I have never been made aware of The Carlisle Boarding School and the Native American children who were taken from their families and adopted in the name of keeping them safe and well cared for... and through churches- my goodness. Unbelievable. I knew that the Japanese Internment Camps existed, and can make comparisons to the children who are in cages along the southern US border today- it's a hideous pattern. I am embarrassed for my country- and the fact that we haven't learned from our mistakes.
Another fact that struck me was that, through delousing Mexican's crossing the border in El Paso, the chemical Zyclon-B was introduced. This later was used by Nazi Scientists in gas chambers at concentration camps. We inspired the Nazis- that alone is a horrific thought.
