I am originally from Austria, a country that gave birth to Hitler and participated in Nazism. We had to ask difficult questions of our parents and grandparents about what happened and why people didn't resist more.
One aspect is the support of the church for the Hitler regime. Why did the church who always said that they stand on the side of the oppressed and prosecuted - in that case, the jews -not come to their aid.
I am wondering if the system of organized religion, which has people not question but follow the doctrine, conditions us to not resist unless a leader tells us to. What is the role organized religion has played in the US in the context of systemic racism?
