Honestly, I thought I was pretty well versed in equality and anti-racism. I was adopted, I married a man of a different race, I thought I understood to some extent. Wow! After watching these videos, I have to wonder if I slept through history class or if these things were even taught (which I am confident they were not). I am so angry, sad, horrified, hurt, and shocked that I am having trouble articulating my thoughts. We (I) have always thought that America was the "greatest country", the "land of the free" and the more I learn, the more upset I get. How can we let this continue to happen? As a teacher, I am making it a priority to have these discussions in the classroom and encourage my students to take these conversations home. Please continue to educate yourselves. Have open and honest conversations with the intent of learning and understanding.
You weren't sleeping. Even now, very little of this is part of the curriculum.
