What strikes me so clearly in all that we've covered is that NONE of this is ever covered in history classes in elementary school, high school, or even college. That makes me angry because I feel like young people should know what has happened in the past and what is really happening today. The fact that the US has such a higher incarceration rate compared to other countries is appalling and something I think we really need to re-evaluate as a country. Do other people know this? Do white people know this? Do they know the statistics about race and incarceration? How does this word get out? I'm a relatively educated White woman and I never saw this data laid out so clearly. Why is that? And I wish I knew how to make that information more accessible, available or just shown to other White people.
