Historical racism is often seen as something that is of the past, but it continues to effect todays world, so much so that racism is still a battle that is being fought. This module brings forth the history of various groups and the use of eugenics to divide and feel superior to another race, it discusses it as a thing of the past...but it still occurs today in memes, comic illustrations of people, and more. Land grabs in the 1880's is thought to be something that occurred hundreds of years ago but continued in Alaska until the 1970's and continues to occur to indigenous people today as seen in Standing Rock. Restriction of people coming to america used to be thought of as a thing of the past but we can see children and people running from war torn countries locked in cages at the boarder of our United States. Laws that perpetuate injustices are continued and those that are meant to create equality and justice are targeted such as ICWA.
After watching these videos I learned even more about past injustices and how they are continuing to affect all races today, laws and punishment are disproportionately harsh on non "white" citizens. And regardless of the true purpose they are negatively affecting people, in health, equality, education, and more.
